A private Vector Magic alternative with local-first processing
Pic2Vector traces PNG, JPG, and WebP into clean layered SVG directly in your browser without requiring an upfront subscription. Compare client-side processing with Vector Magic's online and desktop editions to choose the right workflow.

When Pic2Vector is the better fit
- You will not pay $9.95/month or $295 for occasional logo traces. Pic2Vector has no download paywall.
- The file cannot leave the machine. Vector Magic Online still requires an upload to preview and download. Pic2Vector never does.
- You want a tab, not an installer. Desktop Edition is a real application; Pic2Vector runs in the browser you already have.
- Transparent PNG icons. See the dedicated PNG to SVG converter for alpha and fringe-snapping notes.
When Vector Magic may still win
- You need EPS or PDF from the tracer without opening another app. Pic2Vector only writes SVG; you would convert SVG downstream.
- You want their Desktop Edition for offline batch jobs, AI/DXF, or very large images. We do not ship a native desktop binary.
- You prefer their look. We have not published a side-by-side quality study. Preview both on the same file.

Questions people ask before they keep a Vector Magic plan
Is Pic2Vector a Vector Magic alternative?
Yes, if you want raster-to-vector SVG without a monthly download fee and without uploading the file. It is not a clone of their tracer, EPS/PDF pipeline, or $295 desktop app.
Is Vector Magic free?
As of 8 September 2026 they let you upload, vectorize, and preview without commitment. Downloading requires the $9.95/month Online Edition or the $295 Desktop Edition. Confirm on their pricing page.
Does Vector Magic Desktop keep files offline?
Their pricing page describes a stand-alone desktop application for offline conversion. Pic2Vector is also offline in the sense that tracing never leaves the browser tab - with no install step.
